Working Phenomenologically with Dreams

A 2 day workshop

Learn how to work with dreams within a non-interpretative framework. Alan’s approach to dreams is that, as the most spontaneous expression of human existence, every aspect of them is a personal road to self discovery. In this highly experiential workshop, you’ll examine the practice of working with the meaning of dreams from a phenomenological standpoint; learn about narrative enquiry as an entry point to dream work; look at techniques for the ‘here and now’ exploration of dreams and draw on insights from metaphor-based practice.

Alan will work on dreams with individual participants, then process the impact of the work with the whole group. He will oscillate between working with an individual (in front of the group) and working with the whole group with a fluidity that is similar to a Dream Group.

Let's Talk About Sex! When Sex Comes into the Therapy Space

A 2 day workshop

Build your confidence in working with clients around sexuality and diversity in this 2 day hands-on workshop. Both days will make use of experiential exercises, case examples and therapy role play to bring alive the topics being discussed.

Day 1 will focus on expanding your awareness around sexuality and relationship diversity and responding effectively to clients struggling with issues such as compulsive porn use. We will consider sexuality from an existential perspective as one way of responding to the givens of relatedness, uncertainty and temporality.

Day 2 will explore how to respond therapeutically to a client's sexual attraction to their therapist and how to manage your sexual attraction to a client. We'll look at ethical considerations for therapists when using dating or sex sites and any case examples you care to bring relating to sexual themes in therapy.
