Yaqui Martinez 2026

Yaqui Martinez-Robles

Supervision as a Space for Shared Enquiry:
an existential-phenomenological approach

An online workshop delivered via zoom
over 2 half-days
Fri 7 & Sat 8 AUGUST 2026

Introduction

Supervision can often be a space for practitioner evaluation and, sometimes, correction. So, what might happen when the supervisor adopts a stance of genuine unknowing and uncertainty, creating a relational space for shared enquiry?

Workshop Overview

In this workshop, over 2 half-days, Yaqui will explore with you the many dimensions of an existential-phenomenological approach to supervision and what can happen when an authentic, open stance is taken. The supervisory focus will be on developing sensibility of the therapist’s way of being with the client. This will include aspects such as:

  • how the practitioner is present in the therapeutic encounter
  • what they may be seeking through their work with the particular client
  • what tensions are present in the client’s life
  • how these tensions affect the therapist and the therapeutic relationship

These elements and more will be explored through the lens of genuine ‘unknowing’, humility and openness, staying close at all times to lived experience. You will be invited to bring your own case examples to use over these highly experiential sessions which will include live supervision, group reflection and opportunities for practice with your peers in breakout rooms.

What will be covered

Day 1: Introducing a relational, existential-phenomenological approach to supervision

Day 2: Exploring and deepening this relational style in practice

You can expect to walk away with:

  • A clearer perspective on your own style, strengths and weaknesses
  • Awareness of the benefits of creating ‘a safe space’ that encompasses equality and authenticity
  • An appreciation of an approach in which experience is not adjusted, replaced, or guided toward a
    pre-determined outcome

Who Should Attend:

Practising supervisors (from any modality) who are interested in incorporating (or enhancing) an existential- phenomenological approach in their practice
