An Introduction to Existential Practice

Learn how Existential Philosophy is Located in Practice

Take this short course to explore the fundamental concepts of existential practice and how they can be applied to any modality.

If you are a practising psychotherapist, counsellor, psychologist, coach or social worker who would like to incorporate existential themes and concepts into your practice, this introductory course is for you. The course provides an intensive introduction to the fundamental philosophical concepts that inform the practice of existential counselling and psychotherapy. It includes an overview of the major philosophers and a critique of their similarities and differences. Current practitioners across the fields of psychotherapy, counselling, psychology and related fields will also be discussed in relation to their philosophical underpinnings and their practice. A series of exercises and role plays will give participants an opportunity to put the theory into practice.

The module will encompass:

  • Philosophical foundations
  • Introduction to the Wheel of Existence
  • Time and Beginnings
  • Exploration of the Existential Givens
  • Worldview and Sedimented Beliefs
  • Integrating a phenomenological understanding of relationship
