Ernesto Spinelli

Professor Ernesto Spinelli
on

Supervision: An Existential Approach

offered online nationally and internationally across 3 evenings direct from the UK

Thur 3, 10 & 17 JULY 2025

Introduction

This July marks a welcome return to Australia (virtually) by Ernesto Spinelli. His last workshop for CEP was in 2023 and it was very clear then that there is an ongoing appetite to hear more from this global existential luminary. This time, he turns his attention to supervision, with a practice-focused workshop delivered over 3 evenings. We suggest that you register early!

Overview

Existential supervision provides the opportunity for supervisees to explore and give critical consideration to their chosen approach and ‘style’ of practice so as to expose any underlying assumptions and biases that may impinge on the therapeutic process. by doing this, existential supervision seeks to promote an excellence in practice through specific focus on:

  • maintenance of a respectful yet challenging therapeutic alliance with clients
  • the ability to work from an inter-relational perspective, utilising the immediacy of the therapist-client relationship
  • the capacity to recognise personal and inter-personal issues that may be evoked by what a client presents and a willingness to to explore this in supervision
  • consideration of both the supervisor’s and supervisee’s way of relating within the supervisory encounter as a potential indicator of the presenting concerns and issues

The workshop will:

  1. introduce the characteristics and major themes of an existential perspective on supervision
  2. facilitate you to explore these characteristics and themes in relation to your own experiences of supervision
  3. facilitate you to present material on your work with clients for existentially-focused discussions

You are invited to bring examples of your own therapeutic work (with clients and/or supervisees) so that you can engage in reflective and critical discussion of your own practice.

What you can expect to walk away with:

A fuller understanding of the inter-relational realms that present between the supervisor, supervisee and the client

Who should attend:

This workshop will be of interest to practitioners and supervisors alike, across modalities
