Greg Madison Series 2024

Expanding Beyond The Inner Critic and its Victim:

an embodied approach to loosening the clutches of the self-critical process
and developing a healthy relationship to our shamed places

a series of 3 x 2-hour evening sessions with Dr Greg Madison direct from the UK

MAY 13, 20 & 27 2024

Greg Madison returns to CEP virtually this year to explore with you an aspect of our socialisation that is very common, perhaps even universal, in Western cultures. It is the process of self-criticism and the slump of shame that it creates. You will explore with Greg this dynamic as it uniquely arises in each of us, look at why it is so prevalent and what situations are likely to trigger it.

Specifically, Greg will offer practical suggestions for deepening your experiential attention on three aspects of the self:

Compassionate Awareness
The Inner Critic and
The Shamed Victim of the Critic

During each 2-hour session Greg will offer simple practices that can be helpful in loosening the stuck critic-victim dynamic that has such a strong impact on our day-to-day lives. Elaborating on the Focusing approach to self-reflection, Greg will invite further exploration and fundamental questions on how we experience ourselves beyond this restrictive process. You will also learn ways to discern the restrictive dynamic of critic-criticised so you don’t confuse it with the body’s ability to create a felt sense that encompasses information about living situations.

During each session, there will be lots of time for personal experiential practice as well as informal discussion and deeper questions about the source of compassion, the role of the critic and how to integrate the learning into your work with others.
